A shuffling of feet was heard a little ways away and a bright eyed girl stood with a baseball bat and a bag of twizzlers. "What is going on!!" She demanded, her curly red hair frizzed into an almost poof around her head. A twizzler fell from her pocket. Three second rule!

"Nothing's going on..." Reuben replied, narrowing his eyes trying to find out who was talking until he saw Marti. "Whoa..." he said. "It's almost gone anyways..." he said, looking at the near empty bottles.

Marti narrowed her eyes and snatched the bottle from Ari's shaking fingers. "This is bad for y'all! It could make you sick." But behind the stern voice her mouth was begging for a burning swallow of the vodka.

Marti looked at them funny, bottle shaking in her palms. She unscrewed the top of the vodka, the interesting scent of burning liquor reaching her nose. With a small sigh of relief, she put the bottle to her lips and let the fire burn down her throat. Automatically she felt warm and fuzzy inside. "I can see why you two have resorted to this." Said the fiery red head, whipping her lips with a cotton sleeve.

Reuben, who was not in his right mind, broke a beer bottle over the table and waved it around. "Where's that damn mermaid?! Ari, evasive maneuvers!"

Reuben stopped, dropping the bottle with a loud crash. He swayed on his feet for a second, trying to get himself together.

Marti put her bottle back on the table and moved the glass into a small pile. Reuben had sure made a mess of their small party. She steadied him with a small, pale hand and looked towards Annabelle. "Maybe he just wanted to forget for awhile. It's not like he was hurting anyone or himself." Said the girl, tugging at her thin sleeping shirt.
