ATA-How it Happened
It was 2017. The Moon suddenly left it's orbit, and the Earth was a dark cold place. Millions caught disease from the cold and darkness, many became crazy and committed suicide, and many were killed by other things. Shadows. Shadows were wiped out when the Moon first appeared, after a meteor struck Earth. The gravitational pull of the moon kept them away. Though, as the moon suddenly disappeared from the orbit, the shadows once again appeared, and killed off most of the disease survivors. Now, only about 8,000 people live in the world, and there is a popular group of rebel survivors in New York City. These survivors are the closest in the world to the Shadow Fortress, and are the only ones that can save the human race from becoming completely extinct.

Chelsea sat on the ground.She traced pictures on the dirt with her finger. When she got done with a picture, she erased it and started to draw another one.

Reuben walked up, his shadow riding on his shoulder like a parrot. He sat down in front of Chelsea. "Hey."

Reuben smiled and tried to reach out, but he froze up and choked back tears when his arm didn't move. He swallowed them back and continued watching.

"Why don't you try the other arm?" She asked still drawing never looking up. When she finished this drawing it was a dragon around a tree. A tear streamed down her face as she remembered one of her only friends loved this drawing, but that friend moved away.

"So, it doesn't hurt to try." She said looking at him. She had caught back the rest of the tears from the memory. She started to use her left hand a started to draw even though she wasn't good at drawing with her left hand.

Reuben took out his right hand and tried to draw, which was usually very good. BUt this time it came out as a very scribbly blob.

Chelsea got a cat instead of a T-rex with her left hand. She frowned at it and erased it. She looked at Reuben's and thought He got what i was aiming for! Nicely done. She said.

He used his good hand to help her up as best he could. He slightly remembered her tripping when he was being strangled to death. "You should really get a brace for that." He stopped for a moment, not even knowing if they had such things at Wal-Mart.

"It's from spinal injury, so unless we had the right treatment, it will be permanent or it'll spread farther down." Reuben brushed the thought away and watched his shadow swing, he looked so cute.

Reuben didn't say anything, since there was a chance his other arm would be next. He looked longingly towards the Shadow Fortress, looming over like a dark cloud.
