ATA-How it Happened
It was 2017. The Moon suddenly left it's orbit, and the Earth was a dark cold place. Millions caught disease from the cold and darkness, many became crazy and committed suicide, and many were killed by other things. Shadows. Shadows were wiped out when the Moon first appeared, after a meteor struck Earth. The gravitational pull of the moon kept them away. Though, as the moon suddenly disappeared from the orbit, the shadows once again appeared, and killed off most of the disease survivors. Now, only about 8,000 people live in the world, and there is a popular group of rebel survivors in New York City. These survivors are the closest in the world to the Shadow Fortress, and are the only ones that can save the human race from becoming completely extinct.

Taking A Walk

A small brown haired girl appeared at the end of Sorrel Boulevard. She stopped, and slowly looked around, watching for anything dangerous. Autumn had been on the run for too long, and she now knew the dangers. When Autumn was pretty sure it was safe, she shouted, "Anyone here? Anyone?"

A streak of black flashed by. Before any human could move, Baby was sitting on top of the girl's head. It cocked his head, and after sniffing her out he jumped off and stood to attention with a mini salute. Reuben walked slowly out. His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked rather tired. "Another survivor?"

Autumn started, and turned to the strange, seemingly tired boy standing in front of her. "Yes." she said, after a moment`s hesitation. "Who are you?" she asked.

"Cool." Autumn replied. "I didn`t think there was anyone else still alive, I`ve been searching for so long. I`m Autumn, by the way." she said, putting out her hand, feeling a little silly. But, this was how her parents had raised her, and so Autumn wanted to keep with their traditions.

He made an awkward shake with his right hand. His left arm hung down, not moving at all. "Our founder hotwired the doors so only humans and animals can come in. There are a lot of us..." his voice seemed to trail off. "You'll have to excuse me. I've had some relationship issues the last couple of days."

"A half-blood found a weakness in our roof and led an army through it. I was picked up by one of the Keepers by the neck and received nerve injury." he explained. "I've learned to live without it, and now the base is unpenetrable." His shadow, Baby as he was named, was sitting on his head with an approving nod.

Autumn cringed at the thought of being picked up by a Shadow. "That sounds terrible." she said. She kept walking, thinking about shadows, and how it was strange that she had not seen very many yet.

He shook his head. "I'd rather not talk about it." he looked up as the sign of the Wal-Mart, looming over them ominously; it's shadow casting over them like a horde of arrows.

"Wow." Autumn muttered to herself. All around her, there were shelves of supplies, more than she could have imagined would have survived. She hadn`t seen this much stuff since she started out from Chicago, after her family was killed.

With a small smile on her lips, she walked up behind Loki and threw her arms around his neck carelessly before glancing at the new girl over his shoulder. "Welcome!" She said happily.
