ATA-How it Happened
It was 2017. The Moon suddenly left it's orbit, and the Earth was a dark cold place. Millions caught disease from the cold and darkness, many became crazy and committed suicide, and many were killed by other things. Shadows. Shadows were wiped out when the Moon first appeared, after a meteor struck Earth. The gravitational pull of the moon kept them away. Though, as the moon suddenly disappeared from the orbit, the shadows once again appeared, and killed off most of the disease survivors. Now, only about 8,000 people live in the world, and there is a popular group of rebel survivors in New York City. These survivors are the closest in the world to the Shadow Fortress, and are the only ones that can save the human race from becoming completely extinct.

Topic For A Dead Site.

Alone in the observatory sat a girl, munching twizzlers and looking through the telescope. Her wild red hair was pulled back into a loose braid, that made her look like she was ruffin it. She had on a regular pair of pajama pants, with polka dots, and a t-shirt with an ad for some shack that sold sea food. It was tye dye. The observatory was louder than usual, due to the fact that the girl had a radio playing some soft music, from a cd. Ah, the bliss. But she had done one thing stupidly. She left the door wide open, for anyone, or anything, to get in.

A dark form moved through the observatory. Shadow energy teemed from his arms and tendrils of dark matter were coming out of his back. Notorious yellow eyes shined from it, making him a small publicity figure among shadows. He moved silently towards Marti.

Marti leaned forward towards the telescope, blinking around contacts that she wore. The bag of twizzlers realized its opportunity, and slid from her lap and onto the floor. "Aww, fudge." She said, leaning over to pick them up. "Three second rule." Marti said, plopping one licorice stick in her mouth.

The creature slinked towards Marti, closer and closer. It's feet seemed melted into the ground as it slinked forward, That's when he pounced, flying through the air at unnatural speed and landing on the bag with a hiss, grabbing it and hugging it to his chest. The tendrils retracted into his back and he now had definable legs. It was Baby.

"Baby!!! Those are mineeeee!" Marti wailed, chasing the shadow frantically around the Observatory, knocking over a stack of dusty books and papers, right before tripping and falling flat on her face.

Marti grabbed the twizzler that landed beside her head, and bit off the end with vigor. "Awh, my life." She said, shaking her head, and sitting criss cross on the floor, her hands in her lap, as she chewed her twizzler like a piece of hay.

Baby was looking very different from when he was last at the Wal-Mart. Ever since he accidentally killed Faye he had been wandering for food. It was as if he was getting traits from different breeds, becoming some kind of mutt. He quickly gulped down the contents of the bag, sticking his head inside it looking for more.

Marti looked at Baby with her head cocked. "Where's Reuben, Baby?" She asked him, her heart skipping a beat at the mention of the guys name. The red-head shook it off, and focused on the small monster.

Baby shrugged. He flipped the bag over, spilling out a small pile of red dust. Baby's shoulders drooped.

Baby struggled. The tendrils lashed out of his back and swung around wildly. Before realizing what he had done, one touched Marti lightly. It revealed to her all the horrors he had been through, most of them with Reuben at his side, a lot of them of his memories of the Shadow Fortress. It was all over in a flash as the tendril pulled itself away. Fear was the number one weapon, and Baby could hardly control it.

Marti stopped running, already half way down the street to Wal-Mart. What could you say, the girl was freakily fast. A gasp came from her half way parted lips, and she quickly composed herself, before the tears could spill. Marti walked slower now, letting the breeze tickle her loose waves. She cradled Baby, saddened at the horrors he'd seen, and slowly, brought him home to Wal-Mart.

"Reuben...." Marti whispered, not knowing what else to say, she hugged Baby closer, and approached her only true friend, looking up to keep the tears from spilling over. "The Wal-Mart... It has a really pretty ceiling." She said hoarsely.

Reuben blinked and looked up. The Wal-Mart's ceiling had a crude patch of wood over a hole that had been blasted through from the first raid. "It does... I guess."

Marti looked at him, a tear slipping. It'd been so long since she'd cried. "I think this belongs to you.." Reluctantly, she passed Baby to Reuben, and let her hand linger on his forearm for a moment too long.
