ATA-How it Happened
It was 2017. The Moon suddenly left it's orbit, and the Earth was a dark cold place. Millions caught disease from the cold and darkness, many became crazy and committed suicide, and many were killed by other things. Shadows. Shadows were wiped out when the Moon first appeared, after a meteor struck Earth. The gravitational pull of the moon kept them away. Though, as the moon suddenly disappeared from the orbit, the shadows once again appeared, and killed off most of the disease survivors. Now, only about 8,000 people live in the world, and there is a popular group of rebel survivors in New York City. These survivors are the closest in the world to the Shadow Fortress, and are the only ones that can save the human race from becoming completely extinct.

Lance stood at the end of the street, reading the sign.
F-R--RK A-E.
He guessed it said "Formark Avenue", a great place for exploration. His stab wound was healed up enough, or so he thought. He took out a shotgun he found on the street sometime ago and loaded it, leaving his revolver in his pocket. All he needed was a cigarette, and a tumble weed, and it would be a western action movie from hell. Cautiously, he stepped forward, staring at the dangerous leeches on the abandoned house lawns. Oh, New York Lance thought. Why art thou not so different from thy time before thee apocalypse.

Luna had followed him. Her shoulder hadn't quite healed yet but she didn't want Lance to go out alone so she stayed into the shadows. She watched her back carefully to make sure nothing snuck up upon her.

Lance grinned and saw his first house. 3_48. A number was scratched off. Not that it mattered. He walked in, to find two shadows feeding on a dead carcass. He grimaced and shot them both, making them disappear into smoke. Next to them was a note from a diary, which read:
We are alive, thankfully, but the sound of scratching is getting louder. I d--- know what it is. I...don't know when it will stop..
The rest was too eligible. He didn't dare look at the carcass, and put the note in his jacket pocket. He then headed upstairs.

Luna walked into the house and saw the dead carcass. It was a young girl, late 20s early 30s as far as she could tell. She heard the upstairs creaking. He went up there. Luna said going up the stairs carefully, not making a sound.

Lance went up, to jump. There was a doll up here. Mildly creepy, able to scare him for a bit. Suddenly, the closet flew open and a Shroom Shadow appeared, trying to rain it's spores on him. He sighed and kicked it, finishing it with a shot to the head. It disappeared.

Lance jumped pointing his gun up. "Oh." Lance's eyes widened, and he withdrew his weapon. "What are you doing here?"

Lance let out a laugh and shot the window's glass out. Then he took a running jump, landing on some dead leaves. Well, that was conveniant Lance thought, waiting for Luna.

Luna jumped down landing in a crouch. She straightened herself and looked at him. She then remembered the girl in the house and started to cry.

She looked at him and kissed him on the cheek and hugged him again. "Thank you Lance." She wiped away her tears.

He shot for a while,until he ran out of ammo. "Cover me." he ordered, dropping the clip on a leech. He put in a new one, and continued firing.
