But before he could finish, he toppled over the framework.

Skylar grabbed her sword and moved to cut the rope. Slicing it just above his head.

Reuben laid there gasping, grabbing his throat tightly. He wrestled the rope off of him and tossed it across the room.

Skylar dropped down beside him. She stared down at her hands, which were still gripping the sword.

His throat felt swollen and full of pain, like a swarm of bees attacked it. He reached for Skylar and looked at her warmly.

Skylar stared at him. "Y-you still wanted to die even though I told you I loved you..." She hadn't heard him before he fell, which her brain had taken as a voluntary move. She stood up and ran out of the room.

Reuben stood up shakily, and started to do an unstable jog after her. "Sky-skylar!" He cried out hoarsely.

Skylar had tears streaming down her face. She stopped and stared at him. "THIS IS WHY I DON'T TELL PEOPLE HOW I FEEL! Rejection is the worst. To top it off you'd rather die than be with me!" She started to sob again. She just wanted to get away.

"No, you don't get it...I-I was so confused. I didn't register everything I was hearing...I-I thought you were faking everything, that I was truly alone..." He stepped forward. "I love you." He whispered softly.

Skylar stare at the ground. Her own mind was deceiving her. It didn't want to believe him. It wanted her to hate him. I could never do that... she thought.

Skylar still didn't look at him. "Nothing." she replied in a monotone. It was like she wasn't even her.

He sighed. He desperately wished that she would talk to him about her problems. He stared hard, wanting to reach into her thoughts and to help.
