Watching Shadows

IC: Amethyst walked into the Windbreak Office Buildings. She was starting to feel alone again, like when she first started in the orphanage. She sighed and watched shadows roam about, because they had not yet noticed her. They weren't shadows she was familiar with but she knew what they were. She walked past cubical after cubical. Body after body sat in the swivel chairs they worked in. Some were on the floor, pushed around by the shadows that now occupied their work space. Amethyst let out a silent sigh. She hadn't been back at the Wal-mart in a week. She didn't really think anyone missed her. She shrugged her shoulders and kept walking. The shadows now had become more aware of her being, but they didn't act like they cared. They seemed more intrigued than angry that she was invading their territory. She looked over at one they stared back at her. It looked like it seemed to wonder why she wasn't afraid. She gave it a shy smile before walking off. Amethyst wondered if there was anyone here.

Danielle was one among the shadows that reconized the human. Her dream was blurry but she knew that it was one of the people in the abandoned Wal Mart, though her most resent dreams did not include her, so Danielle wondered where she had been hiding. Silently, she got up and followed her.

Amethyst's foot falls made no sound as she walked the small hallways between the cubicles. Her expression looked defeated. She looked behind her back and noticed someone following her. She turned around rapidly, her scythe in her hand.

Danielle stopped and calmly looked at her. "Are you the one who cannot talk?"

Amethyst saw no use in lying to the girl so she nodded softly. She cocked her head and watched the girl carefully.

"I figured." she said, then nodded towards the weapon. "You planning on using that?"

Amethyst thought a moment. The girl didn't seem like an immediate threat so she lowered her scythe and tied it to her back.

"That was smart." she said. "What are you doing here anyways?"

Amethyst remembered her pad of paper. She pulled it out and wrote swiftly. She kicked it over to the girl.

I'm alone. The only thing to do is explore.

Danielle read it all in one glance. "Well, this isnt the place." she said, sliding it back to her.

Amethyst rolled her eyes. She picked up the pad. Writing again, she kicked it back over.

I'm not helpless because I can't speak.

Danielle scoffed and slid it back. "Doesnt mean you will survive. We all aren't amatuers."

Amethyst just shook her head. Her voice came out cracked and squeaky. "Neither am I."

"Are you sure about that?"

Amethyst nodded softly. Her mind swallowed up her voice, enclosing it back in the cell it rested.

"Well, Im not." Danielle said.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, 5 nightcrawlers crashed through the ceiling, but only attacked Amethyst.

OOC: the only good thing about being a shadow.

Danielle cleared her throat. "Was I not talking to her?"

The nightcrawlers stared at Danielle, grumbled, and hopped into the darkness.

"Thank you." Danielle said. She looked at the girl for the answer to her question

Amethyst closed her eyes. She opened them back up and wrote on the pad. She kicked it over to the girl.
Why's that?
