Killing Spree

Reuben walked down the Avenue. Nightcrawlers stalked out and closed all possible escape routes. His face was in a frown and his eye brows arched. He was angry, depressed, and a little suicidal. He recklessly charged the shadows, slashing with screams of anger. He unleashed all of his emotions he had kept inside for so long, his shirt was stained with black blood. A claw raked across his back, but he didn't seem to notice. He kept fighting, bringing as many down as he could. A spray of blood shot out of his leg like a spring, and he fell to one knee slashing and stabbing. The Nightcrawlers never seemed to stop, for every one he brought down another took his place. He closed his eyes and slashed all around him, no technique was involved. He reached to cross his heart when he stopped himself. He didn't care anymore.

Amethyst was watching him from afar. You reckless idiot. she sighed inwardly.

Reuben smiled a little. A Nightcrawler rammed into him and Reuben hit the ground, coughing blood. He lunged his arm out and the Nightcrawler was stabbed through, he lifted it into the air before it fell over and Reuben lay there weaponless.

Amethyst stood. Where's your girlfriend now? she asked him rhetorically in her mind. She started walking over but her pace quickened and soon she was running. She jumped into the air and slashed the closest Nightcrawlers near him.

Reuben's eyes were closing. "What are you doing...?"

Amethyst couldn't answer him for she was busy AND mute. She rolled her eyes. Why are you so reckless Reuben? her mind questioned. She continued slashing at the Nightcrawlers.

Reuben shuddered a little and rolled over. He pushed himself up with a shaky arm. The dead arm hung there, useless as always. He got to a knee and pulled his sword out, making a feeble attempt to slash at the surrounding shadows.

Amethyst saw his attempts. She grabbed his arm and shook her head. There were too many and he was just going to get hurt worse. She took his dead hand so there was no possible way he could escape her grip and started dragging him through the crowd of shadows. She slashed left and right with her free hand, making sure none of the shadows hurt him.

He couldn't struggle. He let himself hang there, looking around at all of the fallen shadows in Amethyst's wake.

Soon Amethyst got them too the edge of the diminished crowd, She wanted to scream at Reuben for his idiocy, but alias, she had no voice to scream with. She killed of shadows that were getting too close before deciding to book it to a safer location. She dragged Reuben behind her.

Reuben's head rolled back, spying Amethyst. "Why did you save me...?" He mumbled rhetorically.

Amethyst finally stopped when she felt they were in no immediate danger. She started to write in the notepad she dug out of her pocket.
Because you are a moron! You fought alone because you expected that other girl to save you and guess what! She didn't show! But no. You got the dead girl to come save your ass and you better be damn grateful!
Her expression turned angry when she handed it to him.

"I wasn't expecting anyone to save me." He said. "That was my attempt on my own life."

Amethyst threw her hands up in the air but brought them back to right down on the paper.
YOU IDIOT! How do you think I would have felt if I lost you again!
She pursed her lips and crossed that part out.
How do you think Skylar would have felt if she lost you? she edited.

He sighed. "Terrible, most likely. But it's not like I help with anything... I'm dead weight..."

Amethyst couldn't contain herself anymore. She raised her hand and slapped him across the face. Her breathing turned heavy.
DON'T SAY THAT!
she wrote.

His face turned as she slapped him, her hand leaving a light red spot on his cheek. "But it's true..."

Amethyst shook her head.
Why would you think that?

"All I ever do is get myself or someone else hurt. I just tag along..." He replied.

Amethyst looked down. Is that what that girl is making him think? She thought to herself. Maybe she shall face my blade as well as Loki. Amethyst looked Reuben in the eyes and touched the red mark she'd bestowed upon him.

Reuben's eyes closed. He felt so weak.

Amethyst pulled him into a hug. She wished to be able to whisper in his ear that it would be okay. That he wasn't useless. But she could not since her voice was taken from her just like the use of his arm from him. She wanted to tell him she loved him but what would that do? Confuse him even more. Make him hurt worse.

Reuben laid there motionless. It was comforting but it felt so wrong. He felt guilty and sighed.

Amethyst let him go. She turned away from him. Feeling sorry that she made him feel this way. Her very existence cause grief.

Reuben desperately wanted to hold an actual conversation with her. He had never heard her voice. His eyes flickered open and he caught sight of his dead arm. It symbolized how hopeless he was.
